Swara Yoga: How can yogis survive in the cold with the help of Swara Yoga?

This is India, where knowledge is so deep that it appears as a miracle to an ordinary person and as superstition to the ignorant. Today, let's talk about a form of yoga that is simple and effective — something that we all can learn and practice.

Surya, Chandra, and Sushumna Swara

1)First, try to feel the breath coming out from your nostrils using your hands. Observe which nostril the breath is exiting from. According to the science of Swara Yoga, if the breath is coming out from the right nostril, it is called the Surya Swara. Conversely, if the breath is coming out from the left nostril, it is called the Chandra Swara. When breath is coming out from both nostrils simultaneously without any obstruction, it is known as the Sushumna Swara. These three processes of breath exiting from the nostrils form the foundation of Swara Yoga science.

2) Surya Swara is male dominated. Its colour is black. It is the form of Shiva, on the contrary Chandra Swara is female dominated and its colour is fair, it is the form of Shakti i.e. Parvati. Ida Nadi is located on the left side of the body and Pingala Nadi is located on the right side i.e. Chandra Swara is located in Ida Nadi and Surya Swara is located in Pingala Nadi. Sushumna is located in the middle, hence the breath coming out from both sides will be called Sushumna Swara.

3) In this way when a yogi does tapasya and naam jaap, no matter how cold the place is, he keeps the temperature of his body under his own control, due to which he stops feeling extreme cold or extreme heat. In extreme cold he changes his Surya swara and in heat he changes his Chandra swara. How is the swara changed?

Now let us know how to change the speed of breathing as per one's wish!

4) If a person wants to change the speed of his breathing on his own, then there are 3 methods for this- Method of changing the speed of breathing- The nostril from which the breath is flowing should be pressed with the thumb and the air should be drawn in from the side from which the breath is flowing. Then the air should be exhaled from the other nostril by pressing that side. By breathing in from one nostril and exhaling from the other in this manner for some time, the speed of breathing definitely changes. By sleeping on the same side from which the breath is flowing and doing the act of inhaling from one nostril and exhaling from the other, the speed of breathing changes quickly. By lying down for some time on the side from which the breath is flowing, the speed of breathing also changes.

5) Method of transmitting the vital air into the spinal cord:

To store the prana in the Sushumna Nadi, first close one of the nostrils and inhale through the other and then immediately open the closed nostril and exhale through the other nostril. After this, inhale through the same nostril from which you exhaled and exhale through the other nostril. In this way, by inhaling through one nostril and exhaling through the other and then inhaling through the other and exhaling through the first, in about 50 times, the prana will definitely circulate in the 'Sushumna' Nadi.

6) Introduction to the relation of Swara Sadhana with the five elements-

Out of the five elements (sky, earth, air, fire, water) that make up our body, one or the other element is always present with the swara. As long as the swara keeps flowing through one nostril, all the five elements emerge once each and go back after remaining present for their respective time. Introduction to the elements with swara- How to know which element is present with the swara, how do the five elements emerge with the rise of swara and how can they be known. There are many ways of doing this, but these ways are so subtle and difficult that no common man can know them without practice. For example, the presence of a particular element can be detected by the changing speed of the breath moving up and down diagonally in the middle while passing through the nostrils. Every element has its own special shape. Therefore, by looking at the shape formed by exhaling breath on a clean mirror, the element present at that time can be known

7) The presence of a particular element is detected by the different chakras in the body. Every element has its own special colour. Elements can also be detected by this. Every element has its own distinct taste. It can also be detected by that. In the morning, in the order of the elements, in the nostril through which the breath is flowing, usually first air, then fire, then earth, then water and finally sky rises for 8, 12, 20, 16 and 4 minutes respectively. Information- The presence of any element with the tone can also be detected by the quantity of the elements. The way to do this is to take a thin light cotton and slowly take it to the nostril through which the breath is flowing. Stop at the place where the cotton first starts moving with the speed of the wind and measure that distance. If that distance turns out to be at least 12 fingers, then the Earth element is 16 fingers, Water element is 4 fingers, Fire element is 8 fingers and Air element is 20 fingers, then the presence of Sky element should be understood.

This whole process is a common process for yogis, ascetics and mahatmas, which is impossible to understand without effort and knowledge 🙏
